Date of baptism mis-transcribed in as 1749.

Said to have emigrated to Prince Edward Island 1785 or 1789. Owner of the vessel "Success" built and registered in PEI 1826 (20 tons). Blackett's Creek may be named after him, as he owned land running parallel with it, or possibly after John Blackett of Lot 56, who made his Will in 1835. Care! It is not conclusive that this is the William who married Anne Martha Applequist. However this William was baptised 2 days before Anne Martha Applequist's sister Elisabeth in St. Mary's, Rotherhithe, at the time a strong nautical area. It is quite possible, therefore, that the two families knew one another. 1798 census of St. John's Island, Lot 56 shows Wm. Blackett as head of household: males under 16 1, 16-60 2, females under 16 3, 16-60 1, total 7. Living in Launching, Lot 56 in 1790. Shortly afterwards moved across Grand River to Annandale and purchased or leased 100 acres of land running parallel with what is now Blackett's Creek.
