Note
Parents John and Rebecca. A poet and shoemaker. Died of consumption. Began writing verse after his wife's death in 1807. Printed his Specimens in 1811 "to enable the author to defray the charges of paper, printing, &c., to pay off arrears for the maintenance of his infant child...[and] to extricate Mr. Blacket, himself, from embarrassment occasioned by the very long sickness, death and burial of his wife". At burial "Joseph Blackett, age: 24, Poet of singular Promise, consumption".
