| Note | Baptism reads Thomas Blacket, of Etherley, son of Will'm Blacket, born. Gentleman of Shipley and Helmington Hall. Purchased Helmington Hall and estate by indenture of lease and release 17-18 Jun 1684. 23 Jun 1690. Thomas Blackett, gent., of Helmington Hall: bargain and sale to George Walton, yeoman, of the Soure Close house in Hamsterley chapelry of a moiety of the tithes with their appurtenances of Soure Close house, now in the occupation of [George Walton]. Endorsements in two different hands: a) 23 Jun 1690 Thos. Blackett to Geo. Walton. Grant of a moiety of the tithes of Bracken Hill or Soure Close etc. b) "Anoth[e]r 3d [pt.] of the Tithes Excepting Corne from Hen Blackett of Witton Castle yeom[an] to G. Walton". [NB. Henry was his 1st cousin 2xremoved.] Granted a 99 year lease of Coley Farm, Hamsterley 21 June 1700 to Ursulla Lascelles. Daily Post Sat Dec 20th 1729: "Letters from Newcastle say that Thos Blackett of Helmington Hall Esq, dyd [sic] a few days since at his seat near thet place". At burial Mr. Thomas Blackett, of Helmedon[sic]. Will dated 16 Nov 1729 proved 1729. House, lands etc to wife Isabell for life, plus tenements & tythes at High Shipley. Household & personal effects to wife absolutely. Legacy of 40 guineas to daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Harrison. After wife's death lands etc at High Shipley to son William for life with remainder to his heirs, failing which to testato's son Henry for life with remainder to his heirs. Annuity of £20 p.a. to daughter Jane, wife of Blackett Burton, and after her death legacy of £300 to her daughter, Dorothy Burton. Also mentions grandson Thomas Dale, granddaughters Isabell, Dorothy and Elizabeth Blackett. |
