Note | Burial states "of Witton Township" but his will refers to him as of Low Bitchburne. Some sources show his place of birth as Dublin, and some as Belfast, and some sources show his date of death as 23 Oct 1705. A draper and Anabaptist minister. Escaped from Ireland with his parents on the eve of the "Irish massacre" (of the English) 23 Oct 1641. Will dated 4 Aug 1704. Will Bond of Henry Blackett, draper, of Low Bitchburne in the counttie[sic] of Durham, penal sum £1,000, dated 5 May 1705 held by Durham University. Letters of Administration de Bonis Non granted 1787 to his great-granddaughter Catherine Clarke. By the Will dated 13 Dec 1677 of Jane Blackett of Bedburn Hall Henry Blackett "gentleman" of Bitchburne was one of 3 "loving friends" appointed as trustees of Jane Blackett's estate. (The other 2 were Thomas Robson of West Auckland, gentleman and Robert Redshawe of Conside [Consett?], yeoman.) All 3 were also appointed tutors and guardians of Jane's children. 21 Aug 1675 Mortgage for £1,000 of 6 messuages at Horton Grange; Roger Dowson to Thomas Robson of Toft Hill and Henry Blackett of Low Bitchburne. Henry Blackett of Low Bitchburn, gent. was assigned a farm and garth called The Seathouses, with closes called Little Close and Hopacre Hill in Brancepeth from Sir Robert and Lady Margaret Eden 13 Nov 1683. Consideration £170. Assignment of mortgage on the properties to Sir Robert Eden 1 Jun 1697. [Henry's son, Nathaniel was party to a lease and release of the properties 28 & 29 May 1714]. He acquired a malt kiln and shop in Silver Street, Durham City in 1690. At his death he was said to have been pastor of the Anabaptist church on the Derwent and the Wear upwards of forty years, though it is not known when he converted to the faith.
