Note

Son of John Blackett of Newby, Yorks., Esq. and Mrs. Patience Blackett. Appointed Lieutenant Colonel 5 Oct 1761. ('A List of the Officers of the Army and of the Corps of Royal Marines 1778'). "Lieutenant-Colonel William Blackett to be Lieutenant-Governor of Plymouth, vice John Williams, deceased." (London Gazette Jan 1772). Will dated 2 Jun 1776, proved Oct 1782. He may be the Lieutenant [Governor?] William Blackett who had been in charge of the garrison of Portland Castle, Dorset, and possibly related to the Captain William Blackett who served in the 14th Regiment of Foot (commissioned 29 May 1761)and died in Virginia in 1775.
At burial William Blackett Esq. [body brought] from Bath.
