Note

" Of Ember [Imber] Court, Surrey" (which he acquired in 1672. He was Lord of the Manor in 1693.) Was a godfather to Walter Calverley, b. 1707. From at least 1663 he was agent for the Merchant Adventurers in Balasore, Bengal, India. Appointed Chief Agent for Bay of Bengal 24 Jan 1667/8, but did not formally take up duties until abt Mar 1669. Applied to return home to UK Dec 1669. Left Bengal 1670. Mentioned in Boyd's Inhabitants of London 1672. Merchant. A candidate for the choosing of Knights of the Shire (Middlesex) 1705. One of the six Clerks to the Court of Chancery. Granted a lease in Cobham, Surrey in 1712. Party to a Court of Exchequer action 1714 and appeal to House of Lords in 1715. A plaintiff in Harvey v. Stanley 1717. Bridges v. Baxter 1718 (National Archives ref. C/11/25/4) mentions "Shem Bridges esq lately deceased".
Died without issue and left Imber Court to his nephew.

Alleged by Samuel Hartlib of Inner Temple, gent. Boyd's Inhabitants of London 1672 shows date of marriage as 16 Aug 1672 by Vic. Gen. Mge. Lic.
