Note | Inq.p.m. dated 25 Jul 1418 shows John, aged 24, as his son and heir. "Stanhop, the manor of Wodcroft in. Stanhop, lands in Snawefeld in; some held of Alexander Fethirstanhalgh and others of the rector of the church of Stanhop. Frosterley, lands held in; held of the heirs of Richard Dewy." (NB. Many sources, including Burke's Landed Gentry, wrongly show Sir John Blaket, "the hero of Agincourt", instead of John Blakheved.) 13 Mar 1404 Grant by Walter, Bishop of Durham, to John Blaket of Stanhope of the office of forester which William Fertherstanhalgh the son lately held at the bishop's will; to be held for life, taking the wages pertaining to the office, so long as John occupy the office in his own person. By the hand of Robert de Wycliff, the bishop's chancellor. Date: Durham, 13 March, Pont. 16. 8 Feb 1415 he was a witness to an indenture of land in Faweles, Wolsingham. |
