Note
At baptism stated to be "William Blacket, illegitimate son of William Blacket (of Stokesley Hall) by Mary Blacket". By articles of agreement dated 14 Mar 1804 between William Blackett and John Wilkinson [regarding an old cottage in Bishop Auckland previously used as a school-house] the said John Wilkinson did contract and agree with the said William Blackett for the purchase of the premises in the before recited surrender of 4 Oct 1804; subject, nevertheless, to the life estate of the said Mary Stephenson in four rooms, at the east end of the premises, for the sum of one hundred and twenty pounds. "In Durham Gaol, on Sunday last, Wm Blackett aged 68. He had resided in the above gaol twenty-seven years and seven months having been a voluntary prisoner for at least three-fourths of that period." (Durham Advertiser 10 Jan 1840 deaths column.) Copy will dated 31 Oct 1839 of William Blackett Stephenson, yeoman, of Walkmill Green, Wolsingham held by Durham University.
