21 May 1601 Warrant to William Barnes, gentleman, Keeper of Bedburn Park woods, to deliver two timber trees to Joseph Pilkington who has paid 13s.4d. for them. Dated at Bishop Auckland. Signature of Bishop Tobias Matthew. Will of Joseph Pilkington, of Middleston, Co. Durham [son of Rev. Dr. Leonard Pilkington] dated 8 Feb 1622/3. Proved at Durham by Anne his widow 23 Apr 1623. To his wife Anne "all my interest and term of years of and in my three farmholds or tenements, situate, lying and being in Middleston, Westerton and Merrington, for and during all such term and time as is yet to come and unexpired, in my leases therof, to me made by the Dean and Chapter of Durham" for life. After her death interest in farmhold in Westerton to son Thomas, interest in farmhold in Middleston to son Leonard, tenement or farmhold in Merrington to son Tobye. To daughters Elizabeth and Anne 100 marks for their portions. Wish for wife to renew lease at Hedworth and assign it to son Tobye on his marriage. Various bequests and residue to wife Anne, who is appointed sole executrix.
