Note

Mariner store dealer in 1841 and mariner in 1851. Described as "seaman" at burial of son, Alexander, 1801, and as "mariner" at burial of daughter, Elizabeth 1803. Captured by the French 28 Nov 1807 while serving on the 'Margaret' and interned at Arras. Subsequently released under cartel system. . In 1812 his wife, Ann, aged 43, petitioned Trinity House for financial assistance while her husband was a prisoner of war at Bezanzon [Besancon, France] during the Napoleonic Wars, captured on the 'Henry'. Released from Brest and landed in England by 'La Gloire' 8 May 1814. Aged 85 at burial.
