Baptised privately on the day of his birth 18 Dec 1707. At public baptism godfathers were Sir Walter Hawksworth of Hawksworth and Shem Bridges Esquire "who married an aunt of his mother". Godmother Mrs. Francis Calverley, grandmother.
2nd Baronet. By private Act of Parliament 1733 changed his name from Calverley to Blackett to conform to the terms of the Will of his uncle, Sir William Blackett, so that his wife would succeed to Sir William's estate. M.P. for Newcastle and Mayor of the city 5 times. Known as the "King of Newcastle." Disposed of Calverley estates to John Thornhill 1755. Acquired Longwitton estate, Northumberland, from William Swinburne 21 & 22 Nov 1776. Died without surviving issue. He had previously been buried in Kensington, London, but in accordance with his instructions his remains were subsequently disinterred and brought from the church at Kensington 29 Jul 1778 and reburied at Calverley 15 Aug 1778, when age shown as 69.
Built at his own expense the workhouse at Calverley-cum-Farsley 1756.
Some sources show his date of birth as 29 Dec 1708. Probate dated 19 Feb 1777.
