A Colonel in the New Model Army. Fought under Oliver Cromwell in the English Civil Wars. One of the Commissioners who signed the death warrant of King Charles I in 1649. Found guilty of high treason after the Restoration and sentenced to be hung, drawn and quartered. Sentence commuted to life imprisonment. Died in prison on what later became known as Drake's Island. |
